Ronneby Brunnspark
The spring is found
In 1705 a spring containing mineral water was found at the western shore of the Ronneby river. This marked the beginning of Ronneby's history as a spa resort. The water was drawn up into bathtubs for patients to bathe in and was bottled to be sold by the city's chemist.
You can still taste the water from the hand pump by Gamla källan (the Old Spring).
Popular spa resort
In the late 19th century the Danish landscape architect Henry August Flindt was charged with the task of extending Ronneby Brunn. Flindt was assisted by the master gardener Henrik Madelung.
Ronneby Brunn quickly won widespread fame for its diverse spa treatments, its fashionable hotel, its imposing park and the natural forest with viewing sites and bandstands.
The spa's forest also had places to which you could retire in seclusion. In the present-day Brunnspark the Japanese garden is one example of such a place.
Today's park
There are no longer any bandstands left in Ronneby Brunnspark, and the spa's guests do not stroll down by the spring. But the park is still there, with its walks and its beautiful flowerbeds.
The forest is also there with its pines, yews, old oaks and beeches, and the little lake in the heart of the forest. The marker stones and the footpaths evoke the great age of the spa resort, as do all of the wooden cottages, the spa hall and the bathing house, which were all elements of the everyday lives of the spa's guests.
Today, the park is full of life - you'll find a bath landscape, miniature golf, tennis courts and big areas for play and relaxing. During summer events of all kinds take part and the Blekinge Naturum is situated in the Villa Gymnastiken. Here you can learn more about our cultural landscape and our fauna.
Tip! On Sundays, from middle of April until end of October, the popular flea market takes place in the Brunns halls between 9-15 o'clock.
